Upcycling furniture is a creative way to breathe new life into old pieces, and using bespoke backplates along with new knobs can significantly enhance the aesthetic appeal of your furniture. Here’s a detailed step-by-step guide on how to achieve this transformation effectively.

Step 1: Gather Materials

Before starting your upcycling project, it’s essential to gather all necessary materials. This includes:

  • Bespoke Backplates: Our bespoke backplates come in various designs and finishes, allowing you to choose one that complements your furniture style. Every backplate is hand painted, creating a one of a kind product. Our finish selections are all original… or choose your favorite Ben Moore Paint color.
  • New Knobs: Select knobs that match or contrast well with the backplates. Consider materials such as ceramic, metal, or wood for different textures. We also offer a selection of knobs that look amazing with our backplates
  • hand painted finishes if you need guidance.
  • Tools: You will need a drill, screws (if not included with the knobs), a screwdriver, measuring tape, and possibly sandpaper for smoothing any rough edges.

Step 2: Prepare Your Furniture

Start by cleaning the furniture piece thoroughly to remove any dust or grease. If you plan to paint or stain the furniture, now is the time to do so. Ensure that any previous hardware is removed and that the surface is smooth.

Step 3: Measure and Mark

Using a measuring tape, determine where you want to place the new knobs on your furniture. It’s crucial to ensure that they are evenly spaced and aligned correctly. Mark these spots lightly with a pencil.

Step 4: Install the Backplates and Knobs

Position the bespoke backplates over your marked spots. No drilling needed. Then screw in your new knob. The backplate will stay in place once your new knobs are tight and in place

Step 5: Attach New Knobs

After installing both backplates and knobs, inspect your work for any adjustments needed. If there are any rough edges around drilled holes or surfaces that need smoothing out, use sandpaper carefully.

Finally, give your newly upcycled furniture a final clean-up and polish if necessary. This will enhance its appearance and prepare it for use.

By following these steps meticulously, you can successfully upcycle your furniture using our bespoke backplates and new knobs, resulting in a unique piece that reflects your personal style while being functional.
