This year marks the FIFTH year for this friendly interior design competition, a fundraiser that supports Furnish For Good’s mission to provide gently used and new furnishings for individuals and families transitioning out of homelessness and poverty.
I participated the first time back in 2021, lending a hand to the amazing K Interiors, creating a painted wall treatment for her vignette. It was a moody dressing room with soft blushes and pops of emerald green. Back then the rules were a bit different. Each designer had to select a furnishing or home accessory from the already donated Furnished For Good warehouse to include in their vignette…kind of a jumping off point for the design id say.  The remaining items to complete each space were new and then  auctioned off (similar to this years version)to raise money for Furnish. I loved the creative aspect of incorporating something that Furnished already had in with new items to create a cohesive look. I think it made for a fun way to see some real creative skill by each participating designer.  I mean hey…it’s easy to create an amazing space when you have a huge budget! Most of us, however, do not have that luxury. We have to work with what we have and get creative! See Kates vignette from 2021  below!
This years event called for an entirely new vignette from each of the 4 participating designers. I had the opportunity of collaborating with the amazing Ashley Delapp Interior Design. I created 2 huge paintings on canvas to complete her space. She conjured a colorful eclectic mix of new and vintage pieces to create a living room fit for entertaining the coolest of crowds.
The vignettes were showcased at the amazing Slate Interiors off Thrift St. If you’ve never been…you’re truly missing out on one of the coolest places to shop curated vintage and new furnishings, art, rugs, pillows, lamp shades…etc etc ETC!!! in Charlotte.   Thursday, Oct. 10th the vignettes were revealed and the bidding began! Sunday, Oct 13th was the last day to bid on items in the four curated vignettes and the last day to cast your vote for your favorite space.  Fast forward to today…Monday the 14th. We haven’t heard exactly how much money was raised, but everything in Ashleys vignette was SOLD! Winners have been told to pick up their newly purchased wares today between 10-2 at Slate!

It’s always a great feeling to DO GOOD. During the planning and painting process I felt stressed and heavy. I wanted my work to be worthy of the space Ashley dreamed up in her mind. I was having a hard time getting out of my own way…ugh I can be so annoying! Anyway, turns out I was just overthinking again and it all came together wonderfully!  It usually does 😎. Someone out there will be enjoying my work for years to come and it was all for a great cause! Win Win!
Keep your eye out for the next issue of SouthPark Magazine.  I believe there will be an article in the issue about Furnish For Good and some pictures of the vignettes too. Until then check out @southparkmagazine on insta for  pictures and updates on Furnish For Good
