What comes around goes around. Im old enough to confirm that statement. Even mom jeans came back…to haunt us. With the start of 2025 I was thrilled to hear whispers of “textured wall treatments” making an appearance. I started my art/design career as a decorative painter years ago. Faux Painting was all the rage.  I can still paint anything to look like marble, stone, or even The Cheesecake Factory! Faux was in every high end custom home coffered ceiling and so was I. Trends shifted, as they do, and faux became a real “dirty word” in the design community. It’s silly really, because nothing these days is the “real” thing. Wood is particle board, Quartz can be manufactured, and some exterior stone is a veneer. It’s all faux…or fake. Anywho, I wouldn’t trade  those years working side by side with my mom for anything.  We were partners and we were damn good. You Faux Girl! Design was our business. Say it again…but like you’re saying “You Go Gir!” But with faux.
Soooo reading online that textured walls, like lime wash and Venetian Plaster, are making a comeback brought a big smile to my face.   These days my painting has evolved but I can still rock those finishes. I can actually paint anything to LOOK like anything. It’s like I can see the layers and application of color when looking at something I need to mimic. It’s like Im playing chess on the ceiling like on The Queens Gambit…ha.  I can also usually tell what color a wall is by name (if it’s a Ben Moore or Sherwin Williams color). This stuff comes in handy in design and in real estate!
“Limewash is hands down one of my favorite trends this year. It’s such a simple, cost-effective way to add incredible texture and depth to your walls. The soft, matte finish and natural movement bring so much character to a space—it feels both timeless and modern. Whether you’re going for an old-world vibe or a cozy, organic look, limewash delivers in the most beautiful, understated way.” —Susie Novak, founder and principal designer of Susie Novak Interiors
“One of my favorites is the resurgence of textured wall treatments like limewash and Venetian plaster—they add such a timeless depth and character to a space. I’ve also loved seeing more sustainable materials and biophilic design being embraced. It’s exciting to see aesthetics aligning with wellness and environmental consciousness.” —Vyanca Soto, owner and principal designer at Market Studio Interiors
