I'm constantly painting, creating work that reflects my current interests and ideas. The process is freeing for me and allows me to understand and refine my individual style. Its also proven to be a time of self reflection in terms of life and why I choose to paint what I paint. I work with various mediums on canvas and lucite.
One idea or thought that reoccurs when I paint is “the moments in between”. These are the moments I’m celebrating. The everyday moments, as opposed to the holiday moments. Everyday moments are when I feel the freest. The moments in between are free from expectations and are the light. These are the truest reflection of ourselves and the lives we live.
Recently, I started painting on lucite using layering techniques I learned from decorative painting. The result is different, but the concept of creating sheer layers to build depth and dimension is the same. I paint the underside of the lucite which means the layers are seen in reverse. I don't know anyone painting on lucite in this way. I'm creating and learning as I go, which is gratifying on many levels. Benefits of painting on lucite: reflective gloss shine, easy to clean, doesn’t trap germs like canvas.
The series She Is Me celebrates the relationships between the generations of women in my life – the bond that only a mother and daughter can have. My mother and grandmother both passed away recently. I'm honoring the gifts they gave me that will live on through my daughter and generations to come. My work has been a way to process my emotions and to help them live on. This work is on both lucite and gallery wrapped canvas
